Andrés Felipe Cortázar Mejía

Andrés Felipe Cortázar Mejía is a Colombian numismatist, researcher, and international trade professional focused on Latin American monetary history. With more than fifteen years of experience in international commerce, particularly with Asian markets, he combines global trade expertise with efforts to connect collectors, auction houses, museums, and researchers. He is involved in organizing initiatives such as the Latin American Coin & Art Expo (LatinCoinArt).

He served as president of Fundación Numismáticos Colombianos (Numiscol), a nonprofit dedicated for over fifty years to numismatic research in Colombia. Cortázar has worked as an advisor and researcher with collections of the Banco de la República and the Casa de la Moneda museum. He specializes in Colombian coins, paper money, and historical monetary instruments and has experience valuing material for institutions and private collections. He previously worked with Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) as a banknote grader and is now associated with Stack’s Bowers Galleries through its Miami office.

He regularly lectures at universities, museums, chambers of commerce, and international numismatic conventions, and collaborates with auction houses and publications across Latin America. Cortázar is an Industrial and Systems Engineer from Florida International University and holds a master’s degree in Economics and International Trade from Shanghai University. He has also organized academic gatherings such as the International Convention of Historians and Numismatists to promote research and collaboration in monetary history.
